Shortly thereafter, she became pregnant with her son, a life-changing event that shifted her perspective and priorities. Determined to prove that having a child did not end her career, Falyn quickly returned to volleyball. By December 31, 2012, just a few months after giving birth, she was playing professionally in Puerto Rico under her first pro contract.
Overcoming Adversity
Despite her rapid return to the sport, Falyn faced numerous challenges. She played with a fierce determination, driven by the need to provide for her son and prove her doubters wrong. However, the intense pressure and the demands of professional indoor volleyball eventually took their toll. In order to secure custody of her son, Falyn retired from indoor volleyball, a decision that led her into a period of depression.
Falyn’s struggle with mental health during this time was profound. She experienced significant weight gain, severe acne, and declining overall health. Recognizing the need for change, she embarked on a personal journey of self-care and self-love, dedicating 30 days to activities that made her happy. This period marked a turning point in her mental health journey, leading her to embrace a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.
Reclaiming Her Passion
Rekindling her love for volleyball, Falyn transitioned to beach volleyball, finding a renewed sense of purpose and joy. She began competing in the AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals) and quickly established herself as a formidable player on the sand.
